Bangladesh Floods

Bangladesh Floods Emergency Response

Several parts of northeastern and southeastern Bangladesh and the adjacent Indian states of Meghalaya and Tripura have been experiencing widespread heavy rainfall caused by active monsoons and low pressure over the Bay of Bengal. In the last 24 hours, several areas have recorded substantial rainfall, with Narayanhat in Chattogram receiving 201 mm, Chattogram 182 mm, and Cumilla 180 mm. Heavy rains and water from the upstream caused a significant rise in water levels in major rivers such as the Surma-Kushiara,  Dhalai, Manu, and Khoai in the northeast, and the Gomti, Muhuri, Feni, and Halda rivers in the southeast.

The flood situation has worsened in low-lying areas of Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Feni, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Cumilla, Chandpur, Chattogram, Khagrachhari and Rangamati with flash floods becoming increasingly severe.

Zaimah is on the ground in Bangladesh and has launched an emergency campaign.
